Standard IV - Ethics

Candidates demonstrate ethical behavior within the applicable cultural context during all aspects of their work and with respect for the diversity of learners in each setting.

Artifact 18(1). EDLT 401 course materials.

Artifact Description:

In Fall 2020, in my capacity as the instructor for the EDLT 401 Instructional Technology IV course at Duquesne University, I designed a series of instructional materials for the course. The course content on the Blackboard course site included PowerPoint presentations, videos, research articles, online activities, and learning tasks, etc. The course materials were available to all students to enhance students' learning in instructional technology. All of the course materials provided references properly.

Reflection and Rationale:

This artifact demonstrated my ethical behaviors within the applicable cultural context during all aspects of their work and with respect for the diversity of learners in each setting. I maintained high ethical standards and refrained from any behavior that would be judged as unethical. I dealt with teaching tasks and challenges ethically and effectively throughout the semester. I adopted a culturally responsive educational approach that acknowledges, respects, and uses students’ identities and backgrounds as valuable sources for fostering optimal learning environments (Searle et al., 2019). The instructional materials were designed to encourage creativity and foster active learning and engagement. I provided open access to knowledge regardless of the delivery medium and followed professional procedures for the selection of materials. I avoided content that reinforces or promotes gender, ethnic, racial, or religious stereotypes. Individual rights of access to materials of varying points of view were provided for learners of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and belief systems. Students' privacy was protected, and the personal integrity of the individual was maintained. I will continue to apply professional ethics to the courses that I will be teaching in my career.
