Standard I - Managing

Candidates demonstrate the ability to effectively manage people, processes, physical infrastructures, and financial resources to achieve predetermined goals.

Artifact 5. The Women in STEM travel award report.

Artifact Description:

The Women in STEM Committee at Duquesne University Travel Award Program provides funding for female Duquesne University students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career faculty who will be presenting STEM research at conferences or professional meetings in either oral or poster format. I submitted my application in which I explained my research and career goals and how I would use the financial resources to attend the conference and present my paper at the Innovate Learning Summit 2020 conference. I was granted the travel award and wrote this report on the use of the travel award and reflection of my conference experience.

Reflection and Rationale:

I was currently in the developing phase for this standard because managing people, processes, physical infrastructures, and financial resources to achieve predetermined goals was an area of growth for me. As indicated in the artifact, I had some experience in managing processes and financial resources to achieve predetermined goals. I managed the application process and contacted several people for the travel award. In addition, I learned the process of managing the financial resources such as registering for the conference and applying for reimbursement.
