Artifact Description:
In Spring 2021, I generated a class on the TinkerCAD website as an online learning environment for students in the EDLT302 Electronic Literacy for IT class. The online class was a part of the two-week learning module on TinkerCAD which aims to promote preservice teachers’ 3D modeling abilities. A total of 43 students joined the online class through a link that I generated automatically. The students were required to engage in a variety of learning activities and design a 3-D artifact of their interest. I monitored students' learning progress and the creation of artifacts regularly through the web page of the class. I managed to foster the learning environment within the online class in which ethics guide the practice including health, safety, respect for copyright, Fair Use, and open access.
Reflection and Rationale:
The artifact was chosen in that it demonstrated my proficiency in the indicator. During the synchronous class meeting, I gave a presentation on TinkerCAD to introduce the technology and helped students to be familiar with the learning environment in the TinkerCAD website. For example, I explained the important concepts in the TinkerCAD such as primitive, workplace, group, and align. Next, I asked students to join the online class through the link that I provided. After students joined the online class in the TinkerCAD, I monitored their learning achievements by checking their design and activities to ensure the health and safety of the learning environment. Moreover, I introduced open access to the creations from other authors in the Gallery of TinkerCAD. I emphasized that students need to respect the copyrights of the original authors. When they copy and tinker on artifacts from the Gallery of TinkerCAD on their workplane, they were required to follow the guidelines on the website. As a result, all of the students completed the learning activities and designed artifacts that are ethically guided.
