Standard I - Using

Candidates demonstrate the ability to select and use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy.

Artifact 3. TinkerCAD learning module.

Artifact Description:

In Spring 2021, I created a learning module on TinkerCAD for EDLT302 Electronic Literacy for IT class with Dr. David Carbonara as his teaching assistant. The purpose of the module was to promote preservice’s teachers’ 3D modeling abilities. TinkerCAD was used as the IT for learning 3D modeling, which is an increasingly important concept in STEM education developed by Autodesk. The learning module included Youtube videos, tutorials, slides, learning tasks, pair activities, and assignments. Through completing the learning module, students will be able to know how to use TinkerCAD and to integrate it into their lesson plans. In addition, a survey was created to understand students' opinions on the technology.

Reflection and Rationale:

The artifact was selected in that it demonstrated my ability to select and use educational technologies and processes based on appropriate content pedagogy. Although much other software for 3D modeling and Computer-Aided Design(CAD) are available in the market, TinkerCAD was selected because it is a learner-friendly tool to deliver content knowledge for preservice teachers who are unfamiliar with 3D modeling. Before creating the learning module, I conducted research on the software and collected information about how to apply it to different content areas such as Math, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. The learning module provides step-by-step scaffolding for students’ understanding of the IT. In addition, I created an online class on the TinkerCAD website in which I monitored students’ learning progress such as completion of learning tasks and artifact creation.
